Now in its second edition, the Biennial of Contemporary Arts, or BoCA for short, brings together emerging as well as established visual and performance artists and musicians and lets them have their way with the city — or, in this case, three cities: Lisbon, Porto, and Braga. From Marina Abramovic to that strange girl down your street who’s been building her own musical instrument, expect to experience the arts in all their glory, depth, and strangeness across some of the cities’ most iconic as well as otherwise inaccessible spaces. The Lisbon venues this year include Museu Arte Antiga, a subterranean venue under Príncipe Real Garden, our favorite hidden greenhouse, Estufa Fria, and many more. Among the other artists whose work will appear in Lisbon are video-installation artist Meg Stuart, choreographer William Forsythe, and the excellent Portuguese writer Gonçalo Tavares.
